The Antica Sosta dei Viandanti, situated in via Fiesolana, joined
together Florence with nearby Fiesole. It represented an arrival
point for all those who came from the northern regions. After encountering
the cold of the mountains, they descended the sweet and flowered
slopes which surrounded the city, finally entering into Florence.
Traders, travellers, bankers and soldiers found hospitality in
the many taverns and restaurants present in the area of Santa Croce;
a happy meeting of traditions, ways and costumes made Florence a
crossroad between different cultures.
